Chicago police chief says there is ‘a lot more evidence’ against Jussie Smollett

The case against Jussie Smollett is even stronger than the public knows, according to the Chicago police.

Days after Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson came out strong against the Empire star, who has been charged with filing a false police report, in a post-arrest press conference, Johnson went on Good Morning America to further speak on the high-profile investigation.

Speaking to Robin Roberts, who conducted the first post-attack interview with Smollett, the superintendent said the investigation is ongoing and that the actor has the presumption of innocence, but that there’s still more to come to light.

“There’s a lot more evidence that hasn’t been presented yet that does not support the version that he gave us,” shared Johnson. “There’s still a lot of physical evidence, video evidence, and testimony that just simply doesn’t support his version of what happened.”

And while TMZ reported that the $3,500 check from Smollett to brothers Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo was for a workout and nutrition plan, Johnson says they told police that the money was for staging the attack.
