Mötley Crüe’s record sales and streaming are way up in wake of The Dirt

A whole lot of people out there want to “Shout at the Devil” right now.

Following the release of Mötley Crüe‘s biopic The Dirt, which debuted on Netflix on March 22, the band has seen a massive uptick in their record sales and streaming, with iTunes downloads up more than 2000 percent according to a press release. Their Greatest Hits album is currently at number 13 on iTunes’ album chart. As Bohemian Rhapsody showed, there’s nothing like a biopic to get people listening.

Based on the book The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band, the film stars Douglas Booth, Game of Thrones‘ Iwan Rheon, Machine Gun Kelly, and Daniel Webber as Mötley Crüe, and follows the band’s notorious exploits during their heyday in the 1980s. The film depicts some of the most intense incidents from Mötley Crüe’s history, including bassist Nikki Sixx’s heroin overdose where he was declared dead before being revived.

“Our story, we felt, is so important to leave the warts and all in. If you take out the ugly parts, then you just have a Disney movie,” Sixx told EW.

The film has drawn some critical ire–though EW’s Chris Nashawaty called it “ridiculously dumb fun”–but audiences seem to be on board. The film currently boasts an 85 percent audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes (as the press release notes, higher than Black Panther‘s).
