Brian Austin Green has broken his silence on the tragic death of his former Beverly Hills, 90210 costar Luke Perry.
On Thursday, Green shared a video on Instagram about his …With Brian Austin Green podcast, explaining that he will be taping a live episode this summer from Southern California’s Torrance High School, which served as the backdrop for the series’ West Beverly High.
Green, who had yet to post a social media tribute or release a statement regarding Perry’s death, was criticized by followers for promoting his podcast, with some fans writing, “too soon.”
“I’m not sure how you could do this so soon. I haven’t seen anything from you about his passing, maybe I’ve missed it somewhere. Pretty much everyone else had something to say,” one fan commented, referring to the tributes and statements made by Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, and Shannen Doherty.
Green responded to the fan, writing, “The passing of Luke is terrible. As was said by many, everyone grieves in different ways. If it’s too soon for you to attend what is meant to be a fun night for the fans then you don’t have to. Everyone should respect everyone’s process.”
In addition, he thanked “everyone for sticking up for me but it’s not necessary.”

Perry was hospitalized after suffering a stroke on Feb. 27 after paramedics were dispatched to his home in Sherman Oaks, California. A source told PEOPLE he never regained consciousness.
On March 4, Perry’s rep confirmed that the Beverly Hills, 90210 actor had died at age 52.
“Actor Luke Perry, 52, passed away today after suffering a massive stroke,” read a statement from Perry’s rep. “He was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancé Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends. The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time.”

Green is not the only 90210 costar to clap back at fans following Perry’s death.
For her first Instagram post since Perry’s death, Garth posted a sweet photo of daughters Luca, 21, Lola, 16, and Fiona, 12, in honor of International Women’s Day. In the comments section, some Instagram users questioned why the actress hadn’t spoken about Perry on social media, with one fan incorrectly assuming it was because she wasn’t “mourning” his death.
“Not cool,” replied Garth, who went on to explain in a separate comment that wanting “to celebrate anything” had been difficult for her in the wake of Perry’s death.

“Hi everyone… I chose to post a pic of my girls today. Because they are my life. Because today is a day to celebrate all women. It took a lot for me to want to celebrate anything. I thought about it and I know that’s the way my dear friend would have wanted it. His kids were his life,” she wrote, adding, “and anyone who knew him knows that and knows he didn’t give a f*#k about social media.”
“So please don’t assume or judge or make rude comments. That’s really uncool. Sincerely, Jennie,” she continued.
Garth previously provided PEOPLE with an exclusive statement about Perry’s death: “My heart is broken. He meant so much to so many. Such a very special person. I share my deep sadness with his family and all who loved him. Such a terrible loss.”
