While we wouldn’t go so far as to say that the real-life rise and fall of auto business tycoon John DeLorean is as fantastical as the plot of the DeLorean car-featuring Back to the Future, it is nevertheless pretty darned strange.
The inventor and executive found fame as a disruptor of the car industry and then much greater fame when he was seemingly caught on camera by federal agents agreeing to finance a cocaine smuggling operation.
That remarkable tale is now detailed in Framing John DeLorean, a part-documentary, part-dramatization which stars Alec Baldwin as DeLorean, Morena Baccarin as his wife Cristina Ferrare, and Josh Charles as DeLorean’s business partner, Bill Collins. The movie will receive its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival and then open in select theaters, June 7.
